A trip to California for the Howard & Helen Lyman Greer Family with a visit to Will & Julia Lyman Day's home in Los Angeles - 1909

These photos (except the professionally taken one of Julia Lyman Day) are from a trip to Los Angeles taken by the Howard & Helen Lyman Greer family in February 1909.
The trip was undertaken to visit Helen Lyman Greer's sister and her husband (Julia Lyman & Will Day). The professionally taken photo of Julia Lyman Day is included because it was pasted into the photo album on the same page as the photo of Will Day's office. The photo album that these photos were scanned from was the property of Helen Cossitt Lyman Day until 1954 when she gave it to one of her grandsons. The only photos with labels in the original album are "Redondo Beach 13 February 1909", "Live Oak at Del Monte" and "Monterey Mission". The labels identifying people and other places are from educated guesses by other family members made in 2003 or 2010. For instance, Will Day's study is at the end of the section of California photos and has an "Amherst '89" penent on the wall (which is the year he graduated from Amherst College). In another photo, a man and a woman are in a car. Julia was known to drive and the clerics collar on the man next to her indicates that it is Will Day. The trickiest bit was knowing whether the woman golfing is Julia Lyman Day or her sister Helen Lyman Greer. Every time this woman is shown she is identified as Helen Lyman Greer mostly because of the hairdo being similar to the other photos of Helen Lyman Greer. The hairdo would create the forward tilt to the hat shown in the photos. This same woman is shown in the photo listed as "Live Oaks in Del Monte". Del Monte is probably the golf course near Monterey that opened in 1897. Monterey is near San Francisco not Los Angeles so it seems that the trip to visit Julia and Will took them down the California coast and perhaps Julia and Will were not with them at this time. It is still questionable as to whether or not the photos are of Helen or Julia since they look a lot alike and the sisters are said to have loved to golf. So, the labels are not definitive.
